Since this is my first blog, I decided to go with the feeling that resides in my soul the most which is GRATITUDE. This time of the year most people settle down with Christmas, Chanukkah and all the other holidays to reflect and remember the blessings and gifts that we all share. This time is when families come together and enjoy the time and share gifts, food, company, laughs and memories. But why is it that most only have this feeling during this time? Why is this feeling not carried everyday of our existence even in the most difficult times? Why do most forget how truly blessed we all are?
Sometimes throughout the year we may see someone homeless or disabled and have a glimpse of how blessed we are but why does that feeling go away? We may have a huge miracle come our way but only a day later we loose that feeling, so where does it go? Why is it so hard to hold onto that feeling of Gratitude? After all it is us holding that feeling so how does it slip away?
The reason is because we are so occupied with everything in our lives that we don’t hold this feeling first. Most have expectations which lead to disappointments and a flurry of emotions. Most look for something they don’t have and dream of something they want instead of looking at what they already have. All of out gifts are right in front of us and more gifts come to us constantly but most look for the next thing or the next gift instead of really appreciating what they just received and have already received. So how do we hold onto Gratitude? How do we keep it in our every thought, word and action? How do we show that we are grateful and appreciative? But more importantly, how are we paying it forward to others?
The recipe to this is really simple but takes dedication, time, patience and most importantly LOVE. You first must fill your heart with genuine LOVE. But not just 50% love, I mean LOVE LOVE LOVE, 100% LOVE. Our natural self is made up of this ingredient. It is only us that lets it fade away.
Second part is to look around you and your life. Look and count all the blessings you have whether it is family, friends, career, home, children, activities, whatever you enjoy that you are surrounded by. These are gifts. They may only be in your life for a season, reason or lifetime so enjoy the gift while it is here. Don’t take it for granted.
Third is to give. GIVE with the utmost sincere, genuine energy. Giving comes natural to us all but it is our greed and selfish ways that holds us back. If I had a million apples, giving half of that away is a great gift. But if I only had 1 and I gave half to someone who is hungry, that is so much more powerful for the soul. We are all here to help each other in whatever ways we can. So give with their words of encouragement. Some give with their time and volunteer. Some give of their natural talents. There are all ways of giving, even a smile is a great gift. Give all day long. Try to give at least 10 times throughout the day. Whether it is holding a door for someone, giving a compliment or simply words of encouragement. It is about the energy you are extending to others.
All the gifts we give we send out this beautiful light filled energy that only comes back to us. The energy is even stronger when we don’t expect anything in return. Be the natural LOVE filled you and you will be able to hold onto the GRATITUDE of life. But more importantly, you will be helping others while you help yourself. Namaste and G-D Bless.
